Allah's messenger said: "If ever the faith is to be measured with constellations, Men as such, would get them" The prophet (saw) said it on putting his hand on Salman.
Our actual story is that of the truth seeker, the searcher for Allah… It is the story of Salman Al Farissi (r) Let's leave Salman himself tell us about his story… His feelings are deeper… and his own narration is more truthful…
Salman said: I was a Persian kid, from "Esfahan", precisely from a village called "Jayyan". My father was the village chief, one of its most rich, and highest socially ranked people. I was the most beloved creature to him since my birth; his love to me got strengthened to the point that he kept me by force at home, for fear of getting an injury or anything alike outside… I made a great effort in the religion of "Magianism" to the point I became the fire setter. My father was a great large farm owner, from which we were making a good harvest. My father himself was in charge of running it. Once it happened that he got busy for going to the farm, so he told me: " Son, I'm busy as you see, so just go to the farm and look after all the necessary works to be done". In my way to the farm, I passed by a church, where my attention was attracted to their loudly heard hymns and prayers. I knew almost nothing about the Christians or about any other people of the other religions, due to the fact of being held from contacting the outer world. So immediately I decided to get in that church and see what the people inside it were doing. At the first time, I got impressed by the way they pray, and liked their religion and said: "this religion is surely better than ours" so I did not leave them till the sunset time, and of course I did not go to our farm, and I asked those in the church: " Where does your religion originate from" they replied: "from al-sham (the actual Syria and Palestine)". When it was night, I got back home. My father was there at my reception, asking me about what I did. I informed him that I had passed by some people making their prayer at a church, and I had liked their religion, and had stayed with them till the sun set." My father got horrified of what I had done and said: "son, there is nothing good in that religion, and yours (which is also that of your ancestors) is the best among all religions." To his surprise I opposed his opinion: " I swear that their religion is better than ours", the thing which really set my father in more fears to be converted to Christianity. Thus, he jailed me at home, with my legs tied.
I seized the first opportunity, and sent to the Christians in the church a message asking them to inform me of the first caravan trip they would encounter to the "al-sham". Just some days after that, I got a reply informing me of a caravan going there. Immediately, I managed to untie myself and run away under a disguise, and went with them. Once we arrived there, I asked them about the most honest man in their religion, and they presented me their bishop. So, I informed him that I was so interested in their religion, and that I liked to stay with him, be his servant, pray with him and learn from him the principles of Christianity. Willingly, he accepted my request. Later, I discovered that he was not that nice man. He used to preach his followers to give charity, and make them desirous it; but instead of giving the received charity money and donations to the poor people, he just kept it for himself, till he gathers 7 jars of gold. I did not like what he did. A short time later, he passed away. At his funeral, I informed his followers the Christians that their bishop was not the good man they would think, as he abstained all the time giving the received charities and donations to the poor people. They inquired how did I come to such a conclusion. Once I showed them all the gold he had secretly gathered, they easily got convinced. They did not like that in their turn and felt disappointed. A short time after that, another bishop was appointed at their church, with whom I kept on serving. Frankly, I loved him so much as I found him a very honest man. The time he was about to pass away, I asked him to whom shall I go after his death? He advised me to join a good man in "Mawsil" (a city in the actual Iraq), who did not change or forge anything of our bible. So the bishop died, and I went looking for the man he told me about. Once I found him, I told him about my entire story. So he welcomed me to live with him. Shortly after joining him, unfortunately, he fell down sick, and almost passing away. I asked the man again to whom he might advise me to go to. He ordered me to join another good man in "Nassibin" (a place between "Mawsil" and "Al-sham". After he died, I went searching again for the other man in "Nassibin". I found him, and told him al about my story, so he welcomed me like the previous one to live with him. I found also that he is really a very honest man. I was not lucky to stay with him for a long time, he fell down sick, and before he died, I asked him the same question I kept asking those before him, so he pointed me to look for another man in "Ammouriya". The time I got there, I found the man and told him my story. In his turn he welcomed me to live with him. Again unfortunately, he fell sick, and about to pass away. I asked him again the same question. But this time's answer was a little bit different, for, he stated: "there remains no man holding to God's teachings, and it is a near time for another prophet to appear in the Arab land, calling for Abraham's religion, and who would immigrate from his land to another one full of palm trees, and in general has numerous unhidden signs. He would eat from a gift food but never from a charity food, and between his shoulders, there is a prophethood seal, so if you can join that place, just do it as soon as possible". So he passed away, and I stayed in "Ammouriya" for a while, till a merchants' caravan going to the Arab land, passed by there. I asked its leaders to take me with them; in return they can take all my cattle. So they accepted. But in the midway, they betrayed me, and sold me as slave to a Jewish man, who in his turn re-sold me again to one of his cousins. My new master took me with him to his home in "Yathreb" (the actual city of Al-Madina in Saudi Arabia), where I found a lot of palm trees that the last bishop mentioned to me. (The prophet (saw) at that time was making his preaches and "da'awa" in Makka. I have never heard anything of that, as I was busy in my slavery duties in serving my master. Soon the prophet (saw) immigrated to "Yahtreb"). I was working at top of a palm tree, and my master sitting at its bottom, when his cousin came to him informing him that "Bani Qaylat" (the two Arabic tribes (Al Alaws and Al Khazraj) living in Al-Madina)) were at the reception of a man pretending to be a prophet at "kuba'e". Once I heard the news, I was about to fall down from the tree. I quickly got down, and asked my master's cousin about the news. Immediately, I received a hard fist hit on my face form my master, ordering me to go back to work and not interfering in such talks. When it was evening, I took some of the dates I gathered before and went straight to where the prophet (saw) is dwelling; I get in and said: "I heard that you are a good honest man, and accompanied with men in need of foods, so these are some dates for charity, I think you deserve it better than someone else for the time being". The prophet (saw) ordered his companions to eat from the dates, whereas he held back his hands and did not touch them at all. I said to myself: "this is one sign". After that I went away back, and started amassing dates, and when the prophet changed from "kuba'e" to "al-madina", I went to see him and told him: " I saw you not eating from charity foods… this is a gift food to you". So he accepted it, ate it and handed from it over to his companions. I said to myself: "this a second sign". It happened once that the prophet (saw) was burying one of his companions at a graveyard in al madina, called "baqee'a al gharqad". So I saw him covering his body with two pieces of dresses, I greeted him, and turn around him, hoping to see the prophethood seal described to me by the last bishop. That attracted the attention of the prophet (saw), and he knew immediately what I was looking for. So he put off the upper dress he was wearing, and let me see the seal. I realized at that time that this person is the prophet mentioned to me by the last bishop. I could not stop my tears and my deep impression. The prophet (saw) asked me about myself. I told him the entire story, to which he was so impressed, and he was pleased that his companions heard it from me.
Peace be on Salman, the day he went looking for the truth in everywhere. Peace be on Salman, who believed in truth, the day he knew it. Peace be on him the day he passed away and the day he would be resurrected again.
