You have to know that after loving Allah and His Messenger, peace be upon him, Allah obligates us to love those who love Allah and His Messenger, peace be upon him, and hate those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, peace be upon him.
The Islamic Belief System (Aqeedah) obligates every Muslim to love the people of Tawheed and hate the people of Shirk. This obligation comes from the creed of Ibraheem, peace be upon him, the creed we are ordered to follow. Indeed, the Glorified Allah the Exalted said, "There is for you an excellent example (to follow) in Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people, ‘We are clear of you and of and whatever you worship besides Allah. We have rejected you. And between us and you is enmity and hatred forever, unless you believe in Allah, and Him alone.’" (60:4).
Also, Allah the Exalted said: "O you who believe! Do not take the Jews (Yahood) and Christians (Nasara) for friends (Awliyaa). They are Awliyaa to each other. And the one among you that turns to them is one of them. Indeed, Allah guides not an unjust people." (5:51). This verse forbids Muslims from taking any of the People of the Book (Ahlul-Kitaab), specifically, and any disbelievers (Kuffar), generally, as a friend (Mawalaat). [The Proof is] the verse, "O you who believe! Take not My enemies and your enemies as Awliyaa." (60:1).
Furthermore, Allah forbade the believer from supporting the Kuffar, even if the Kuffar are blood relatives. Allah the Exalted said, "O you who believe! Do not take your fathers and your brothers as Awliyaa, if they love disbelief (Kufr) instead of Faith (Eemaan). If any of you do so, they are wrongdoers." (9:23). Also, Allah, the Almighty, said: "You will not find any people that believe in Allah and the Last Day loving those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even though they were their fathers, sons, brothers, or relatives…" (58:22).

Ali, May Allah be pleased with him, narrated: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, sent me, Az-Zubair and Al-Muqdad somewhere saying: "Proceed until you reach Rawdah Khakh. There you will find a lady with a letter. Take the letter from her."
So, we set out and our horses ran at full pace until we found the lady and said (to her). "Give us the letter." She replied, "I have no letter with me." we said, "either you give the letter or else we will take off you clothes." So, she took it out of her braid.
We brought the letter to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and it contained a statement from Hatib bin Abu Balta'ah to some of the Makkan disbelievers informing them of some intentions of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, "O Hatib! What is this?" Hatib replied, "O Messenger of Allah! Don't hasten to give your judgments about me. I was a man closely related to the Quraish, but I did not belong to this tribe, while the other belong emigrants with you had their relatives in Makkah who would protect their dependants and property. So, I wanted to recompense for my lacking blood relation to them by doing them a favor so that they might protect my dependants. I did this neither because of disbelief nor apostasy nor out of preferring Kufr (disbelief) to Islam." The Prophet, peace be upon him, said, "Hatib has told you the truth." 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "O Messenger of Allah! Allow me to chop off the head of this hypocrite." The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, "Hatib participated in the battle of Badr, and who knows, perhaps Allah has already looked at the Badr warriors and said, 'Do whatever you like, for I have forgiven you."
Then Allah revealed: "O you who believe, take not my enemy and your enemy (the disbelievers) as friends" (60:1) Ishaq make this Verse recitation according to Sufyan." (Bukhari and Muslim)
"O you who believe! Take not My enemies and your enemies as Awliyaa."(60:1). These verse means that disbelievers and associaters are fight against Allah, His Messenger, and believers. Therefore, these disbelievers are Allah's and believers' enemies and Allah forbid on us to take them as friends, as Allah said: "O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Chistians as Auliya' (friends, protectors, helpers), they are but Auliya' of each other. And if any amongst you takes them (as Auliya'), then surely, he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (Polytheists and wrong-doers and unjust). (5:51). Allah, the Almighty, said: "O you who believe! Take not as Auliya' (protectors, and helpers) those who take your religion as a mockery and fun from among those who received the Scripture (Jews and Christians) before you, and nor from among the disbelievers; and fear Allah if you indeed are true believers." (5:57). Allah, the Almighty, said: "O you who believe! Take not for Auliya' (protectors or helpers or friends) disbelievers instead of believers. Do you wish to offer Allah a manifest proof against yourselves?" (4:144). Frm this verse Allah forbid on us to take disbelievers as Auliya' (protectors or helpers or friends), and taking the as Auliya' will be the cause of Allah's punishments on us. Allah, the Almighty, said: "Let not the believers take the disbelievers as Auliya' (supporters, helpers) instead of the believers, and whoever does that will never be helped by Allah in any way, except if you indeed fear a danger from them. And Allah warns you against Himself (His punishment), and to Allah is the final return." (3:28).
